Gynaecological cancers are cancers arising from the genital organs such as cancer in vulva, uterus, cervix, endometrium, fallopian tubes or ovaries.
As in with other cancers, the early diagnosis of gynaecological cancers is important for a good prognosis. Gynaecological cancers are most often treated, depending on the type and epidemiology, by surgical treatments, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted drug therapy, or a combination of these. A specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology with a specialization in gynaecological cancers is responsible for the treatment.
The most common cancers in these organs are endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer and cervical cancer.
Docrates Cancer Center offers precise diagnostics and latest treatments for gynaecological cancers. We offer imaging of gynaecological cancers such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as well as radiotherapy and drug therapy treatments at our own premises in Ruoholahti, Helsinki. Surgical treatments are performed in cooperation with our partners.
Doctors examine the location and spreading of cancer using MRI. MRI scan is also used when planning individual cancer treatments. Our experts within imaging services and our state-of-the-art three-tesla scanner enable us to make even more specific diagnoses, and as a result, create better and more individually tailored treatment plans. At Docrates you have access to MRI scans without delay. Read more about MRI of gynaecological cancers at Docrates.
We offer individual cancer care for every patient. For example in addition to individual imaging also genetic information is utilized in treatment planning and latest targeted drug therapy.
For example the treatment of advanced and recurrent ovarian cancer has been revolutionized in recent years with the introduction of new targeted cancer drugs called PARP (poly ADP ribose polymerase) inhibitors. In some cases, the drugs can prolong the disease’s time to not progress. Certain types of ovarian cancer have already turned into chronic diseases as a result, even though the treatment method is relatively new. In the coming years, PARP inhibitors will most likely impact the prognosis of ovarian cancer significantly. Read more here.
At Docrates, gynaecological cancers are treated by Johanna Mäenpää and Kalle Savolainen, who are experienced specialists in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and in Gynaecological Oncology.
